When open door of happiness closes, another opens .....

When one door of happiness closes, another opens - Helen Keller

I have got a bit of thing about doors, so decided to blog about some of the lovely doors around Barmouth. Bit nerdy I know, but a change from reading blogs about Kids and Baking (even though I am a big baking fan). Most of the photos are taken from above the harbour in the the old town, which is a must if you visit Barmouth .

This is a view of Old Barmouth (above) which is where the town started and has expanded over the years. I love it. Its great to climb up there during the busy months sit at the top and watch the hustle and bustle below. 10 years ago my husband and I decided to research Barmouths' history and we ended up writing a book called 'Discover Barmouth Today and Yesterday' .We spent many hours at the local archives hunting for old photos and talking to a lot of local people about their memories of the town. It wasn't meant as some big historical guide, more of a guide book to historical points of interest around town, a few walks and some lovely old photos. We sell the book at the shop £1.99 if any of you would fancy a read!

This (below) is a collection of doors I found on my one of my many walks around Old Barmouth.

Love these 4 doors (above)! The lower doors were most commonly used as the entrance to servants quarters. Today they are more likely to be used as storage or maybe to stick the kids or husband in (only joking)

How cute is this(above) - very Snow White cottage. Found this lovely door hiding away. I wonder if you know where it is or if you can find it on your next visit ?

This door inspires (below) me to give mine a lick of paint and even a new colour. I really like this colour - Duck egg blue maybe?

The door (below) is not in Barmouth, but is my favourite so far. Its my brothers door to his Potting Shed in East Sussex, lovely isn't it! It reminds me of a door which might of housed a character from
Winnie the Pooh in Hundred Acre Wood .

Probably the best door in the world !

Bank Holiday in Barmouth

Another Bank Holiday over with, and what fab weather we had, especially on the Monday. Its was so nice to see the town buzzing after such a long, sleepy, cold, winter.

The harbour cafes seemed to be doing a roaring trade over the Bank Holiday.

It was great to have the shop so busy - some new customers and some returning. My favourite customer comment had to be 'We have to visit Luvit on our trip to Barmouth, its a must. '

For those of you who haven't visited our shop, here is a bit of information on the building in which we are housed. We are in an attractive white cottage - one of the oldest buildings in Barmouth.  See if you can spot it on your next visit!

Luvit, High Street, Barmouth - modern day

We have quite a few old photos of the shop the one shown below has a front section which has now been removed to make room for a pavement, also the small shed where the rakes are resting in the right hand corner has now gone.

Before Luvit, on the High Streetin Barmouth. What date though?

I love to see people in old photos and their clothes, gives you an idea as to when the photo was taken? The sign on the front of the shop says ' Bring your repairs. Best and cheapest in town'

Date carved into one of the shelves in the shop. Genuine or fake?

At the back of the shop there is a slate dated 1489, so the shop may be pretty old.

Up-cycled Vintage bicycle !

Well I have finally got around to doing a Blog page which  I have been going to do for absolute ages. Anyway, here it is.
Thought I would show you all my up-cycled Vintage bicycle, which I am really pleased with. I posted the photo on the Luvit Facebook page and it got many 'Likes'. The bike came from a Freecycle ad , and a post on Facebook, asking for a bicycle -  didn't matter if it wasn't in working order.  Within a week or so someone got in touch and I got a great bicycle for free !! It then got a makeover in Luvit colours of pale duck egg blue and pink. I 'luvit' when you can turn someone elses junk into your treasure !!

I have thought of moving the bicycle around town (Barmouth) and posting a photo on Facebook asking people where the bicycle is today. This photo shows the beautiful seaside town of Barmouth where we have our shop , and where we live. I think you will agree it is pretty beautiful.
